BEAUTY AND THE GEEK:
ROMANTIC PRESETS + LIGHTING TRICKS
fEBURARY 14TH, 2019
Got lucky enough to take not only 1—but 2 Matheson sisters out for some Galentine’s fun.
The goal of this little outing was not only to capture SUPER ADORABLE and literal tear jerking sister moments on film—but to also create some late 70’s esque parlour style vibes of our own here in YYC. Think Scareface meets Elvira.

I for sure have a bit of an unfair advantage when it comes to my cell phone. My Google Pixel 3 takes outstanding images. They come out backlit and contrasted precisely for high detailed photos.
IMG 1 is unedited but was taken in “Portrait Mode” you will also be able to focus in on subjects for blurred backgrounds. Another very professional grade feature on this camera.
vs.
IMG 2 (Edited)
with the “Vintage 2” Lightroom profile
This preset clarified the details such as those in the bar and mirror, it also added warm pink and red light to the imaging as well.
with exposure set down to -1.34EV
basically turned the lights down a bit for the picture ;)
IMG 3 is unedited and raw from my Canon. It is very exposed and bright. The yellow lights are brightened and enhanced by the camera settings.
VS.
IMG 4 (edited)
with the same Lightroom presets as above on the first image. Again bringing down the exposure for a more subdued and alluring vibes.
Magic isn’t it? IMG 5 + IMG 6 were taken on my Canon with an ISO of 800 and ƒ/4.5.
VS.
IMG 7 + IMG 8 which were edited on Lightroom using the “Vintage 2” profile and the exposure turned up instead of down this time (0.83)
The rest of the light adjustments are J’s personal trade secrets ;)
IMG 9 (taken on Canon Rebel) edited with the same presets as IMG 1 listed above
MIRROR IMAGES + FLASH VS NO FLASH CAPTURE:
IMG 10 turned out beautifully without flash and was taken in the “Night Mode” setting of the Canon. Both sets of girls, in front of and in mirror are clear as well.
VS
IMG 11 which was manipulated again on Lightroom and then faded with Instagram for an eerie edit.
How refreshing are these two? Please indulge on more candied images below by yours truly <3
